Fiala blanks O's, ends title hopes
August 11, 1993

   You can douse the fire.
You can call in the dogs, the hunt is over.
The Oconomowoc Five O's lost 9-0 to Hartland in a Land O'Lakes Western Division game on Sunday.
The defeat dropped the O's two games first place Lannon with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
Lannon is 6-0 while Oconomowoc fell to 4-2 and fourth place.
Hartland improved to 4-1 while split season first half champion Menomonee Falls remained in second place at 5-1.
The loss virtually ensured that Oconomowoc player/manager Jason Brown will not be ordering any division championship rings from the local jewelers.
"We just got beat today," said Brown.
After a scoreless first inning, Hartland put a touchdown and an extra point on the board with seven hits off Oconomowoc starting pitcher Greg Hackbart.
Hartland shortstop Jim Johnson drilled a two-run double for the key hit.
The 7-0 lead was more than enough for starter Mark Fiala, who scattered six hits in a masterful performance.
"The two things we've got to do now is finish strong in the division and play well in SWABA (Southwestern Wisconsin Amateur Baseball Association) Tournament," said Brown.
The O's, who have reached the quarterfinals, resume play in that event August 12 in Waupun before hosting Merton on August 15.
In the regular season finale, Oconomowoc will travel to Genesee.
