Pewaukee's 7-Run 7th Pushes Muskies Over Oconomowoc

Despite a quick start by Oconomowoc, Pewaukee was able to come back and beat the Five O's 11-10 in LOL action on Sunday. Oconomowoc stormed out of the gates with three runs in the top of the 1st with three straight singles by Matt Huffaker, Luke Nelson and Jeff Rhoads. Later in the inning Steve Rhoads also singled to put the score at 3-0. Chris Fischer made his first start of the season for Oconomowoc and was brilliant until hit pitch count took him out of the game in the bottom of the 4th. In his 3.1 innings, Fischer only allowed one unearned run on one hit. Oconomowoc added two more runs to their lead in the top of the 4th. Josh Fenzl reached with one out after being hit by a pitch. Walks to Matt Huffaker and Jeff Rhoads paired with singles by Luke Nelson and Derek Nelson put the score at 5-1. Justin Mortensen came in to relieve Fischer cruised through the 4th and 5th and allowed two runs in the 6th to put the score at 5-3. The Five O's expanded that score to 9-3 in the top of the 7th by batting around and slugging five hits. Pewaukee however would not give up and scored seven runs in the bottom half of the inning chasing Mortensen from the game and taking the lead 10-9. They added another unearned run in the 8th putting Oconomowoc down by two in the top of the 9th. Josh Fenzl singled to lead off the inning and Jeff Rhoads doubled him home with two outs to put the tieing run in scoring position however after intentionally walking Derek Nelson, reliever Rob Michalkiewicz was able to strike out Mike Mitchell to end the game.
At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Jeff Rhoads who was 4 for 5 with a double, walk and two RBIs and Luke Nelson who was 3 for 6 with two runs scored. Steve Rhoads took the loss for Oconomowoc going the final two innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits while walking one and striking out two. Chris Fischer went 3.1 innings allowing one unearned run on one hit while walking one and striking out two. Justin Mortensen went 2.2 innings allowing eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits while walking three and striking out one. Rob Michalkiewicz got the win for Pewaukee.
The loss puts Oconomowoc at 2-1 in the LOL West. They return to Tri County action this Wednesday at Johnson Creek and then host Sussex on Sunday at 1:00 pm in LOL action.
