On a blistering hot day, Oconomowoc got a tremendous pitching effort from veteran Rob Becker and youngster Justin Mortensen to defeat the Lannon Stonemen 4-2 in LOL action. Lannon jumped on Becker early with two runs in the top of the 1st but Oconomowoc was able to score one in the bottom half to make it 2-1. Luke Nelson singled and came around to score two batters later on a single by Jeff Rhoads. After retiring Lannon in the 2nd, Oconomowoc tied it up with another run on singles by Brett Marshall and Luke Nelson. Both pitchers dug in and the game remained scoreless for the next several innings. In a 2-2 game, Becker was relieved by Mortensen after a lead-off single in the top of the 7th. Mortensen retired the next three hitters to maintain the tie. In the bottom half Luke Nelson drew a one-out walk and scored on a double by Derek Nelson. Saturday's starter Chris Fischer came in to pinch run for Derek Nelson and was promptly picked off by Lannon catcher Dean Haase. With two outs Jeff Rhoads walked and then scored on a double by Mike Mitchell to make the score 4-2. Mortensen allowed a baserunner in each of the 8th and 9th innings but neither of them scored to seal the win for Oconomowoc.
Rob Becker threw the first 6+ innings allowing two runs on six hits while walking three and striking out one. Justin Mortensen earned the win going 3 scoreless innings on no hits while walking two and striking out two. At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Luke Nelson who was 3 for 3 with two runs, a walk and stolen base.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 7-7 in the LOL West, a half game out of 6th place behind the Brookfield Blue Sox. They travel to Juneau on Wednesday night for a night league game against Hartford. On Saturday they host the 2nd annual charity softball game against the TNB All Stars down at Roosevelt Field at 1:00 pm. On Sunday they host the first place Brookfield Bulldogs at 1:00 pm down at Roosevelt.
