Oconomowoc improved to 2-0 in the LOL West (3-0 overall) with a 6-1 win over the Brookfield Blue Sox in LOL action on Sunday. In the home opener for the year, both teams showed dominant pitching but in the end the Five Os were able to get to Brookfield and earn the win. Brookfield struck first with a run in the top of the 3rd when lead off hitter Jaq Wojcinski got a 1 out walk and eventually got to third after a single and stolen base. A past ball allowed him to score what would eventually become Brookfield's only run. Oconomowoc answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Mike Eppler led off the inning with a walk and was bunted to second by Josh Fenzl. With 2 outs, Oconomowoc then hit three straight singles by Luke Nelson, Jeff Rhoads and Derek Nelson to score 2 runs and put the score at 2-1. The Five Os pushed across an unearned run in the 4th and 5th to put the score at 4-1 before getting two more insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th to end the score at 6-1.
Rob Becker started on the hill for Oconomowoc and picked up his first win of the year going 6+ innings giving up 1 unearned run, allowing 5 hits, walking 6 and striking out 4. Tony Briggs then made his Oconomowoc debut and picked up the save going 3 solid innings giving up no runs or hits, walking 2 and striking out 4.
The Five Os were led at the plate by Jeff Rhoads who was 2 for 3 with a double and walk. Derek Nelson was 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
Oconomowoc gets back to Tri County action this week with a game against Sullivan on Wednesday (at Johnson Creek) and then play Pewaukee in LOL action on Sunday in Pewaukee. Game time on Wednesday is 7:30 pm and Sunday's game is at 1:00 pm.
