Sussex scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st but Oconomowoc overcame the defecit to beat the Cardinals 17-13 in a rain-shortened 8 inning match up on Saturday. Scott Carberry hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 1st off starter Mike Bolson, but Bolson settled down after that. Oconomowoc got 1 run back in the top of the 2nd before dropping 11 runs on Sussex in the top of the 3rd. In the huge inning Oconomowoc sent 16 batters to the plate. Sussex would not give up, getting 2 back in the 3rd and 1 more in the 4th. Going into the top of the 8th Oconomowoc had a 3 run lead but scored 4 to ice the win before the rain came. In the game there were 30 total runs scored on 29 total hits.
At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Jeff Rhoads who was 4 for 5 with a walk and 2 RBIs. Josh Bouche, Mike Bolson, Steve Rhoads and Bob Bolson all had 2 hits each. Mike Bolson earned the win for Oconomowoc going 7 1/3 innings allowing 12 runs on 12 hits while striking out 3 and walking 4. Luke Nelson threw 2/3 of an inning allowing 1 earned run on 1 hit.
