Oconomowoc was on the short end of a pitcher's battle against West Bend in LOL play on Sunday. Both pitchers threw a complete game and allowed a combined 5 hits. Despite giving up only 2 hits and throwing a complete game, Mike Bolson took the tough loss for Oconomowoc. The Five O's were the first to strike when Mike Mitchell blasted a 2-run home run in the top of the 2nd scoring Josh Bouche who walked. They added another run in the top of the 5th to make the score 3-0 when Luke Nelson doubled home Bob Bolson who reached on an error. West Bend battled back and scored a run in the bottom of the 6th to make the score 3-1 when Erik Kraemer scored Andy Hetebrueg on a ground ball to second. They got the other 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th when the lead off hitter was hit by a pitch followed by a Ryan Piedot walk. A sac bunt put runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. A mishandled fielders choice scored West Bends third run and put runners at first and third with one out. A single up the middle by Andy Hetegrueg scored what would eventually be the winning run.
Mike Bolson took the tough loss for Oconomowoc going 8 innings allowing 2 hits, walking 5, hitting 1 and striking out 5. Bryant Bullock took the win for West Bend going the distance. Oconomowoc only had 3 hits in the game by Mike Mitchell, Luke Nelson and Brett Marshall.
The loss puts Oconomowoc at 6-3 in the LOL West, currently tied for 4th place and 2.5 games back of front running Brookfield. Their next game is Sunday, July 29 against Sussex at home. Game time is 1:00 pm.
