After throwing 5 runs on the board in the bottom of the first, Oconomowoc's bats settled down as they edged out Sussex 6-5 in LOL action on Sunday. After Sussex went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 1st, Tim Schlosser led off the bottom of the 1st with a walk and moved to second on an error. Jeff Rhoads then doubled him home. Josh Bouche got hit by a pitch and then Luke Nelson singled and put runners at 2nd and 3rd after a throwing error. Steve Rhoads reached on an error and a double by Mike Bolson dove in the 4th and 5th runs for Oconomowoc. Mike Mitchell hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 5th for Oconomowoc's final run. Sussex made things interesting when they scored 4 runs in the top of the 8th on 4 hits and a walk. After starting pitcher Tony Briggs walked the lead off hitter in the top of the 9th, Luke Nelson came in and struck out the heart of Sussex's order to seal the win.
Tony Briggs earned the win going 8+ innings allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 10 hits while walking 3 and striking out 3. Luke Nelson faced 3 batters and struck them all out.
At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Jeff Rhoads and Luke Nelson who each were 2 for 4.
Oconomowoc improves to 7-3 in the LOL West putting them in a tie for 3rd place. They take on Hartland at home on July 4 and Merton at home on July 6. Both games begin at 1:00 pm.
