Five O's Edge Out West Bend 6-3 Behind Nelson's 14 Ks

Oconomowoc squared off against West Bend in LOL action on Sunday and The Five O's edged out a 6-3 win behind a 14 strike out performance from starter Luke Nelson. The game was scoreless until the top of the 3rd when Jeff Rhoads led off with a single and was followed by a walk to Derek Nelson. With one out Josh Bouche and Griff Bell hit back-to-back singles, scoring Rhoads and making the game 1-0. Mike Bolson's fielers choice scored Derek Nelson and a single by Steve Rhoads scored Bouche making the score 3-0. Oconomowoc added two more runs in the 5th on a home run by Jeff Rhoads and took a 6-0 lead in the top of the 5th on an RBI single by Luke Nelson. West Bend battled back getting a run in the bottom of the 6th and then two more on a home run in the bottom of the 7th. Chris Fischer came in to relieve Nelson in the bottom of the 8th and West Bend sent the tieing run to the plate in the 9th before a fly out to Mike Mitchell ended the game. Luke Nelson earned the win for Oconomowoc going seven innings giving up three runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out 14. Chris Fischer earned the save going two innings allowing no runs on one hit while walking one and striking out one. Taking the loss for West Bend was Bryant Bullock.
At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Jeff Rhoads who was 3 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs. Luke Nelson and Steve Rhoads had two hits each.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 6-1 in the LOL West, tied for first place. They next play on Saturday and Sunday at home against Pewaukee (4-3) and Menomonee Falls (4-3). Game time Saturday is 2:00 pm and 1:00 pm on Sunday.
