O's Fall To 2nd Place with Loss To Brookfield

The two top teams in the standings squared off in LOL action on Sunday when the Brookfield Bulldogs took on the Five O's. Things did not start well for Oconomowoc which would be a sign for things to come when the Bulldogs scored three runs in the top of the 1st inning and went on to score in their first five innings. Starter Mark Erickson cruised through the first three innings for Brookfield and took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the 4th when Oconomowoc was finally able to score. Mike Bolson and Steve Rhoads started the inning off with hits and were followed with a hit from Brett Marshall and Jeff Rhoads after a Bob Bolson sac. Derek Nelson capped off a four run inning with a two RBI single to right putting the score at 6-4. Brookfield came right back and scored three in the top of the 5th to make the score 9-4. Oconomowoc tried to mount another comeback in the bottom of the 7th when Derek Nelson led off with a single and was followed by a two run home run by Mike Mitchell. The Five O's were able to get the score to 9-7 just to have Brookfield add six runs in the top of the 8th to seal the win.
On the mound Luke Nelson took the loss for Oconomowoc going five innings allowing nine runs (five earned) on 14 hits while walking three, striking out four and hitting one batter. Mike Bolson threw the last four innings allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits while walking three and striking out one.
At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Jeff Rhoads who was 3 for 6 with a double. Derek Nelson, Josh Bouche and Steve Rhoads each had two hits.
The loss puts Oconomowoc at 9-2 in the LOL West in a tie with Lannon for 2nd place. They return to Tri County action on Tuesday with a game in West Bend before returning to LOL action this weekend with a home double header against North Lake on Saturday and Merton on Sunday.
