In yet another nail biter, Oconomowoc comes out on the winning end against Sussex 9-7 on Sunday. Sussex put runners on 1st and 3rd in the 8th and loaded the bases in the 9th but Andrew Bauer and Luke Nelson were able to hold them off and seal the win for the O's. Sussex got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the 1st against starter Chris Fischer. They added three more in the 3rd on a home run by Seth Kroenke to put the score at 4-0. The Five O's cut the lead in the half in the top of the 5th when Matt Huffaker singled and was brought home on a triple by Luke Nelson. Nelson then scored on a ground out to put the score at 4-2. Sussex added one in the bottom of the half before Oconomowoc scored two more in the top of the 6th to put the score at 5-4. Mike Mitchell led off the inning by reaching on an error followed by a walk to Steve Rhoads. Both players later scored on a two-out single by Andrew Bauer. After holding Sussex off in the bottom of the 6th Oconomowoc scored four in the top of the 7th on five hits. Sussex was able to get two runs in the 8th to narrow Oconomowoc's lead to one run, but Mike Mitchell added an insurance run in the top of the 9th with a solo home run. After one batter Luke Nelson came in to record the final three outs to give Oconomowoc the win.
Andrew Bauer earned the win for Oconomowoc going 5.1 innings allowing three runs on four hits while walking four, striking out seven an hitting three batters. Chris Fischer went the first 2.2 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits while walking one and hitting two batters. Luke Nelson got the saving going the last inning allowing no runs on one hit while walking one and striking out one. At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Luke Nelson who was 4 for 4 with a double, triple, run scored and RBI. Mike Mitchell was 3 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 6-2 in the LOL West in a first place tie with the Brookfield Blue Sox and a half game ahead of two other teams. The take on Lannon in Tri County action during the week before a double header LOL weekend hosting Pewaukee on Saturday at 2:00 pm and traveling to Monches on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
