Oconomowoc Takes Lannon 8-2, Improve to 2-0

Oconomowoc squared up in an early season matchup against rival Lannon on Sunday in LOL pay and were able to top the Stonemen 8-2. Newcomer Serg Medina started on the hill for The Five O's and despite some control problems early in the game, he was able to settle down and worked five solid innings on the mound. The Five O's struck first in the bottom of the 1st when Jeff Rhoads reached on a fielders choice and after a walk to Derek Nelson, Mike Mitchell stroked a two-out single to left to put Oconomowoc up 1-0. Lannon tied the game in the top of the 3rd without getting a hit but Oconomowoc answered back with a run in the bottom of the 3rd after a double by Derek Nelson and a single by Mike Mitchell. After Oconomowoc took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 4th without getting a hit before Luke Nelson led off the bottom of the 5th with the first home run of the season for Oconomowoc. Oconomowoc chased starter Ron Kozlowski in the bottom of the 7th and scored two runs in 2/3 of an inning off reliever Mark Fiala on three straight hits by the familiar combo of Derek Nelson, Mike Mitchell and Josh Bouche. In the bottom of the 8th Oconomowoc added two more runs to put the final score at 8-2.
On the hill Serg Medina got the win going five innings giving up one unearned run on four hits and three strikeouts while walking eight. Luke Nelson came in and threw the fnial four innings picking up the save giving up one run on three hits and four strikeouts while walking one and hitting one batter. Taking the loss for Lannon was Ron Kozlowski.
At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Derek Nelson who was 4 for 4 with a double, walk and two RBIs. Luke Nelson and Mike Mitchell were each 2 for 5.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 2-0 in the LOL West. They kick off their Tri County Night League season this Wednesday at West Bend before returning to LOL play on Sunday at home against the Brookfield Blue Sox at 1:00 pm.
