 Earl Eppler Biography

A Journey Through Time
The Life and Story of living legend, Earl Eppler

When the series was unexpectedly cancelled at the end of the 1989 season, Earl was devastated. The three Emmy's he had won were little consolation. Earl needed another acting gig, and he needed it fast.

Earl set his sights for the silver screen. He had loved going to the pictures since he was a little boy, and now he had the confidence necessary to make the jump onto the screen himself.

Earl set up an appointment with James Cameron. After ten minutes, Cameron had heard enough. Earl Eppler would be his next leading man. The film "Anatomy of a Broken Heart" opened that fall to rave reviews. Hollywood had a new star.

Earl would go on to work with Steven Spielberg, Tim Burton, and the late Stanley Kubrick. But the real feather in his cap would come in the spring of 1992, when a chance meeting at a neighborhood restaurant found Earl and Francis Ford Coppola at adjacent tables.

Earl overheard Coppola talking about a new concept he had for a film, but how he didn't have a screenplay. Earl joined Coppola at the table, and after 15 minutes of wheeling and dealing, Coppola agreed to let Earl have a crack at writing the screenplay.

In two short weeks, Earl churned out the screenplay to "The Challenge of Life." He also starred in the picture, and would go on to win his first of five Academy Awards that year.
