It took Oconomowoc 11 innings, but they earned a win in their 2011 Tri Country Night League season opener on Friday night in Johnson Creek. Every Five O's starter picked up a hit and scored a run in the 19-hit effort. Johnson Creek was first to push a run across in the bottom of the 2nd on a sac fly putting the score at 1-0. Oconomowoc answered in the top of the 3rd with two runs on three straight hits by Bob Bolson, Jeff Rhoads and Derek Nelson putting the score at 2-1. They increased the lead to 4-1 with runs in the top of the 4th and top of the 5th before Creek narrowed the gap to 4-3 with two runs in the bottom of the 5th. After each team failed to score in the 6th, Oconomowoc upped the lead to 6-3 in the top of the 7th with three hits to lead off the inning by Derek Nelson, Brett Marshall and Josh Bouche. The Pioneers would not give up as they scored one run in each of the last three innings to tie the game at 6-6. Oconomowoc was able to take a one run lead in the top of the 10th when Jeff Rhoads singled, got to third and enticed the pitcher to balk him in, only to have Creek score a run in the bottom half of the inning to continue the game. The Five O's then exploded for five runs on seven hits in the top of the 11th to eventually seal the game.
In the offensive attach, Oconomowoc was led at the plate by Derek Nelson who was 4 fot 7 with a run scored and RBI. Brett Marshall and Josh Bouche each had two hits in the win.
On the mound Shawn Tremaine started for Oconomowoc and went 5 solid innings allowing three runs on five hits while walking four and striking out two. Steve Rhoads got the win for Oconomowoc going 5 innings allowing four runs (one earned) on eight hits while walking one, striking out six and hitting three batters. Jeff Rhoads threw the final innings allowing no runs on no hits and hitting one batter.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 1-0 in the Tri County Night League and 1-1 overall. They return to LOL action on Sunday with their home opener against the Merton Amvets at 1:00 pm.
