Just over three weeks after they were eliminated from the LOL playoffs by Lannon, Oconomowoc returned there to battle for the SWABA Class A championship against the Stonemen. In a game which featured seven different lead changes and two different ties, The Five O's came out victorious and earned their 5th SWABA title in the past 16 years.
Oconomowoc lost the coin toss and got on the board early with three runs in the top of the 1st. Chandler Ziemann led off the game with an infield single and was promptly driven home on a double by Luke Nelson on the first pitch he saw. Back to back walks to Jeff Rhoads and Derek Nelson loaded the bases and then an error by Lannon led to the 3-0 Oconomowoc lead. Lannon answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half off starter Chris Fischer on four hits. Oconomowoc scored one in the top of the 2nd on a double by Luke Nelson to make the score 4-3. Lannon regained the lead in the bottom of the 3rd with two runs making the score 5-4. Quickly Oconomowoc answered back. In the top of the 4th they scored three runs on five separate singles to regain the lead making it 7-5. The lead did not last long. In the bottom of the 4th Lannon scored four runs on four hits and with the help of three Oconomowoc errors making the score 9-7. The Five O's came back and scored two runs in the top of he 5th to tie the game at 9-9. With two outs Chandler Ziemann got hit by a pitch and then Luke Nelson walked. Jeff Rhoads then singled in Ziemann and then Derek Nelson followed with a double to right scoring Luke Nelson. The score remained 9-9 until the top of the 7th when Oconomowoc scored one when Luke Nelson singled and then scored on a Jeff Rhoads double. Lannon tied the game up in the bottom of the 8th with a run off Luke Nelson who had come in to relieve Fischer in the 6th inning. With the score tied Luke Nelson walked with one out in the top of the 9th and moved all the way to third on a past ball and throwing error. With two outs, a wild pitch then brought Nelson home to score, putting Oconomowoc up 11-10. Luke Nelson gave up one single in the bottom of the 9th but struck out the side sealing the win for Oconomowoc.
Chris Fischer started on the hill for Oconomowoc going 5+ innings allowing nine runs (six earned) on 12 hits while walking three. Luke Nelson earned the win going the final 4 innings allowing one run on four hits while walking one and striking out nine.
At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Luke Nelson who was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles, 5 runs scored, 2 walks and 2 RBIs. Jeff Rhoads was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 runs scored, 2 walks and 3 RBIs.
The win puts Oconomowoc's final 2011 record at 15-17.
