After taking a beating the day before, Oconomowoc bounced back and got revenge for an opening day loss to Monches by beating the Irish 3-1 on Monday behind a phenomenal pitching performance from Chris Fischer. The Five O's were first to strike with a run in the bottom of the 1st when Luke Nelson led off with a triple to right center and scored on a single by Derek Nelson. They added two more runs to make it 3-0 in the bottom of the 3rd when Mike Mitchell led off with a single to right and scored on a double by Steve Rhoads. Rhoads then scored on a single by Chandler Ziemann. That was all Fischer needed as he cruised through the Monches lineup only allowing a run in the top of the 6th. With a 3-1 lead in the top of the 9th, Fischer gave up a lead off double to Steve Schultz and was relieved by Luke Nelson who retired the next three batters to earn the save and seal the win for Oconomowoc.
Fischer notched the win going 8+ innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits while walking 1, striking out 4 and hitting 1 batter. Luke Nelson got the save going 1 inning allowing no runs on no hits while striking out 2.
At the plate Luke Nelson, Mike Mitchell, Brett Marshall and Chandler Ziemann all had 2 hits in the win.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 6-6 in the LOL West, tied for 6th place and five games out of first place with six games remaining. They have off next weekend for the All Star break before returning to action for a tough double header weekend at the Brookfield Blue Sox (6-7) on Saturday, July 16 (2:00 pm) and home against Lannon (9-4) on Sunday, July 17 (1:00 pm).
