Oconomowoc needed every bit of the four insurance runs they got in the top of the 9th to hold off Watertown's bottom of the 9th rally to win 13-12 in Night League play on Wednesday. Oconomowoc scored one in the top of the 1st and another in the top of the 2nd to take a 2-0 lead before Watertown scored one in the bottom of the 2nd and then two more in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 3-2 lead. They added one more in the bottom of the 4th to make it 4-2. Oconomowoc came back with three runs in the 5th and 6th to regain the lead 8-4. In the bottom of the 7th Watertown chased starter Derek Nelson and plated three runs to make it a one run game. The Five O's scored one in the top of the 8th and four in the top of the 9th to give them what appeared to be more than enough cusioning for the victory. Watertown had other plans when their first five hitters in the bottom of the 9th reached base and scored to make the score 13-12. Reliever Chris Fischer then struck out back to back hitters before surrendering a single and what would be the tieing run. The next batter grounded out to secure the win for Oconomowoc. Derek Nelson earned the win for Oconomowoc going 6+ innings allowing five runs (two earned) on eight hits while walking four and striking out five. Chris Fischer threw the final three innings allowing seven runs (five earned) on six hits while walking two and striking out three. At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Jeff Rhoads who was 4 for 5 with a double and five RBIs and Tyler Malay who was 4 for 6 with a double and RBI.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 2-5 in the Tri County Night League. They have off this weekend for the LOL All Star break before returning the Tri County action next Thursday followed by a Saturday/Sunday LOL weekend.
