Two big wins for Oconomowoc on the 4th of July weekend has put them right back in the hunt for first place in the LOL West. On Saturday they squared up against North Lake at home and jumped on the Lakers early when Luke Nelson and Jeff Rhoads led off the bottom of the 1st with back-to-back home runs. They added two more in the bottom of the 2nd to make the score 4-0. North Lake battled back with two runs in the top of the 4th putting the score at 4-2 before Oconomowoc answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame. In the bottom of the 5th the Five O's extended their lead with five more runs on five walks and two doubles making the score 12-2. The Lakers refused to give up pushing five runs of their own across in the top of the 6th and chasing starter Chris Fischer from the game. The American Dream himself, Steve Rhoads came in to quickly silence the Lakers offense and preserve the 12-7 win. Chris Fischer earned the win for Oconomowoc going six innings allowing seven runs (none earned) on five hits while walking seven, striking out three and hitting three batters. Steve Rhoads picked up the save going three innings allowing no runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two. Oconomowoc was led at the plate by Bob (yes Bob) Bolson going 3 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.
If the offense settled down for the last couple innings of the North Lake game it didn't take long for it to wake up on Sunday as the Five O's pounded out 20 runs and played much sharper defense in a 20-1 win over Merton on Sunday. After a scoreless 1st, Oconomowoc took a 1-0 lead in the second after hits by Mike Mitchell and Josh Bouche and an RBI groundout by Mike Bolson. In the bottom of the 3rd Oconomowoc extended their lead with three more runs after Josh Fenzl led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch and Luke Nelson singled to left. Jeff Rhoads then hit a 3-run home run to give Oconomowoc a 4-0 lead. Things really opened up for Oconomowoc in the 4th when they sent 16 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs to put the score at 14-0. Mike Bolson added a run in the bottom of the 5th with a solo home run before Merton pushed a run across in the top of the 6th to make the score 16-1. Oconomowoc added four more in the bottom of the 6th before Luke Nelson closed out the top of the 7th to get the complete game win. Luke went all seven innings allowing one unearned run on six hits while walking one and striking out six. Jeff Rhoads led the offense with a 4 for 5 day including a home run and 3 RBIs.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 11-2 in the LOL West in a three way tie with Lannon and the Brookfield Bulldogs. They return to LOL action this week before having a weekend off for the LOL All Star game in Menomonee Falls on Sunday. Their next LOL game will be a matchup against the Brookfield Bulldogs in Brookfield on the 18th and then traveling to Merton on the 19th.
