Five O's feel sting of loss
June 8, 1994
The Oconomowoc Five O's hopes of winning the Land O'Lakes Western Division first-half crown were effectively killed Sunday as they fell to the Pewaukee Pirates 11-4 on a dreary day at Roosevelt Field.
Pewaukee opened up a 4-0 lead in the third inning when Pete Amenda lofted a grand slam that barely cleared the left field fence.
Oconomowoc battled back in the middle innings as Steve Rhoads and Jason Brown hit back-to-back doubles, helping close the gap to 4-3.
In the sixth inning, Jeff Ranta homered to right, making the score 6-4. Ranta delivered three hits to the offense.
Pewaukee finally finished the O's in the seventh inning with a four-run outburst. Joe Johnson's single, one of four hits for the Pirate shortstop, allowed two runs to score.
Pewaukee starting pitcher Gary Busch cruised through the final three frames with little problem, not allowing a walk throughout the game, to secure the win.
The defeat drops the O's record to 4-2. Next week, the team faces second-place Menomonee Falls at 1:30 p.m. on Roosevelt Field.
