O's win two games, finish season in 2nd
August 24, 1994
The Oconomowoc Five O's bid farewell to the 1994 campaign this weekend, rolling to victories over Merton and Sussex to take second place in the Land O'Lakes Western Division.
The O's enjoyed a power surge on Saturday, as five home runs, including a pair by player/manager Jason Brown, lifted them to an 11-6 win over Merton.
Sunday, Oconomowoc battled Sussex to the wire before pulling away to an 11-5 win.
The Sunday finale saw Oconomowoc jump out to a 5-0 lead before the Cardinals slowly started chipping away at the cushion. By the eighth inning, the score was tied at 5-5.
It was then that Ron Meunier that stepped up the plate and delivered a three-run homer that gave the O's an 8-5 lead. In the ninth, Erik Olson performed the same feat, making the score 11-5.
Olson also collected three doubles in the contest, while Steve Rhoads and Bob Anderson collected four hits apiece.
Chad Brown came up with the victory on the mound, going the distance while scattering nine hits.
The O's capped the year with a 13-5 record in LOL play. The upgrade on last season's 11-6 meant the team had improved its position both seasons it has been under Brown's guidance.
"It's a good finish," the manager said. "We get a couple more arms and we'll be ready to make it a battle."
