After Oconomowoc's bats helped earn their first win of the year at North Lake, they needed a great pitching to beat Menomonee Falls in their second game of the year. Justin Mortensen pitched a gem to lead Oconomowoc to a 3-2 win over Menomonee Falls. Oconomowoc jumped to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st when Luke Nelson doubled and was moved to third on a single by Jeff Rhoads. Derek Nelson grounded out, scoring Luke Nelson. Mortensen cruised through the first five innings only allowing one hit. Oconomowoc scored another in the bottom of the 5th when Mike Bolson led off with a double to left center and scored on a line drive single by Mike Barker. Falls was finally able to get on the board in the top of thr 6th when Jeff Lueck stroked a two-out double to left and scored on a single by Curt Weiskirch putting the score at 2-1. Oconomowoc got that run right back in the bottom of the 6th when Mike Mitchell got hit by a pitch and later scored on a single by Mike Bolson. Falls came to within a run when they scored another run in the top of the 8th putting the score at 3-2. Luke Nelson came in to close down the game in the top of the 9th, relieving Mortensen and earning the save for Oconomowoc.
Justin Mortensen earned the win for Oconomowoc and improves to 2-0 going eight innings allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out five, walking one and hitting two batters. Luke Nelson went one inning allowing no hits to pick up the save. At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Luke Nelson, Jeff Rhoads and Mike Bolson who were each 2 for 4. Nelson and Bolson each had a double.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 2-0 in the LOL West. After getting rained out on Friday they open up their Tri County season this Friday against Kewaskum. Next Sunday they travel to Pewaukee to take on the Muskies in LOL action.
