Once again Oconomowoc puts the tieing run in scoring position in the last inning, only to fall short. The Lannon Stonemen fell behind 3-0 after the top of the 2nd when Derek Nelson led off with a walk followed by a ground rule double to Mike Mitchell. A misplay later in the inning on a ball hit by Mike Bolson and a single up the middle from Josh Bouche gave Oconomowoc a 3-0 lead. Lannon answered with one in the bottom of the second to put the score at 3-1. The Five O's got that run right back in the top of the 3rd when Luke Nelson reached on an error followed by back to back singles from Jeff Rhoads and Derek Nelson. Lannon fought back and tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the 4th when they sent eight batters to the plate. The score remained that way until Lannon scored two run in the bottom of the 8th putting the score at 6-4. Things looked promising for Oconomowoc in the top of the 9th when Luke Nelson led off with a walk and Jeff Rhoads singled to put runners at first and second with no one out. After a strikeout to Derek Nelson, Mike Mitchell singled to right scoring Nelson and puting the tieing run at third base with one out. Starting pitcher Nick Erd got Steve Rhoads to ground into a 3-6-1 double play to seal the complete game win.
For Oconomowoc, Justin Mortensen threw a very solid complete game and took the unfortunate loss. He went eight innings allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits while walking two, striking out nine and hitting one batter. At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Mike Mitchell who was 4 for 5 with a double and RBI.
The loss puts Oconomowoc at 3-2 in the LOL West. They take on the first place Brookfield Blue Sox Sunday down at Roosevelt. Game time is 1:00 pm.
