Everything appeared to be under control when Luke Nelson came in to pitch the bottom of the 9th with a 5-3 lead against West Bend on Sunday but the 7-Up never gave up. The first two batters of the inning walked however Nelson retired the next two batters to put runners on second and third with two outs. West Bend's pitcher Bryan Bullock then singled down the right field line scoring both runners and tieing the game at 5-5. Nelson eventually got out of the inning with a strikeout but Oconomowoc was now going into the bottom of the 9th in a tie game. Derek Nelson reached first base with two outs on a fielders choice and then Mike Mitchell stepped up with a long at bat which eventually ended up with a line drive double to left center which scored Derek from first base, just beating the relay home and securing the win for Oconomowoc. Andrew Bauer threw 8 outstanding innings for Oconomowoc allowing three runs on six hits while walking two and striking out eight. Luke Nelson got the win going one inning allowing two runs on one hit while walking three and striking out two.
At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Derek Nelson who was 3 for 5. Mike Mitchell was 1 for 2 with the game winning double and completed a 5 for 6 weekend. Mike Bolson blasted his first home run of the season contributing to the win.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 9-3 in the LOL West, tied for first place with the Brookfield Blue Sox. The have off this weekend for the All Star game and will return to LOL action on Sunday 7/18 hosting the Monches Irish at 1:00 pm. They play round 1 of the SWABA baseball tournament next Monday (7/12) against Muskego at Johnson Creek.
