Five O's Stay In First Place With 7-4 Win Over Falls

7/25/2010 Print this page
After being rained out on Saturday Oconomowoc traveled to Falls on Sunday to pick up a 7-4 win over the Lakers. Oconomowoc jumped in front early with a run in the top of the first when Luke Nelson and Derek Nelson both singled followed by an RBI groundout by Mike Mitchell. However Falls took the lead in the bottom of the 1st with two runs of their own when the first two batter reached on a single and hit by pitch and later came around to score. The Five O's regained the lead in the top of the 3rd with two runs making the score 3-2. Bob Bolson led off the inning with an infield single and was moved to third on a double by Luke Nelson and both runners ended up scoring on a throwing error. Oconomowoc scored two more in the top of the 5th and two more in the top of the 6th to make the score 7-2 after six innings. Falls was able to push runs across in the 7th and 8th to make the score 7-4 and gave Oconomowoc a scare in the bottom of the 9th when they had the tieing run at the plate in the middle of their order however Justin Mortensen shut the door to preserve the 7-4 win.
On the mound Andrew Bauer picked up the win going seven innings allowing three runs on seven hits while walking no, hitting two batters and striking out five. Chris Fischer went one inning allowing one run on one hit while walking three and striking out one. Justin Mortensen picked up the save going one inning allowing no runs on one hit while walking one.
At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Luke Nelson who went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 11-3 in the LOL West alone in first place. They have the final two SWABA games this week on Wednesday and Friday in Watertown before returning to LOL play next weekend. The rained out West Bend game from Saturday will most likely be make up during the week of Aug 2-6.
