Oconomowoc beat Clyman 6-2 in the first round of SWABA on Saturday. Clyman struck first against starting pitcher Tony Briggs with 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Briggs walked the lead off hitter and allowed a hit 2 batters later. Jason Wessmann then drove a double to right center to score two run for Clyman. Oconomowoc answered with 2 runs in the top of the 4th. Josh Bouche led off with a single and scored two batters later on a double by Steve Rhoads. Mike Barker then tied the game up with a single to left. Oconomowoc grabbed the lead in the top of the 5th with a solo home run by Jeff Rhoads. In the top of the 6th Oconomowoc added one more run when Josh Fenzl drew a one-out walk and scored on a double by Tony Briggs. In the top of the 7th The Five O's added two more insurance runs on a monster blast by Mike Mitchell. Tony Briggs earned the win for Oconomowoc going all 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 8 hits while walking 5 and striking out 6. Dave McFarland took the loss for Clyman. At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Josh Bouche and Mike Mitchell, each who had 2 hits. Jeff Rhoads and Mike Mitchell each had a home run.
Oconomowoc will next square up against Butler next Friday in a rematch of the 1999 and 2007 Grand Championships. Game time is 8:30 pm in Juneau. The other two teams remaining are The Brookfield Bulldogs and Juneau County Seaters.
