Oconomowoc fell to Rubicon in their final Tri County game of 2008. After starting 3-2, they lost their last 5 to finish at 3-7. Tyler Zimmer started on the hill for Oconomowoc and Rubicon was able to push one across in the top of the 1st. Oconomowoc answered in the bottom of the 1st with an unearned run after a single by Griff Bell. Rubicon made the score 2-1 in the top of the 2nd with a solo home run. Things remained that way until the top of the 5th when Rubicon pushed across two more runs on a 2-run home run. The Five O's got two runs of their own (both unearned) after singles by Jeff Rhoads and Tyler Zimmer. With the score 4-3 going into the top of the 6th, Rubicon started to pull away. They scored two in the top of the 6th, two in the top of the 8th and four in the top of the 9th. Oconomowoc was only able to push one run across in the bottom of the 8th to put the final at 12-4.
Taking the loss for Oconomowoc was Tyler Zimmer who went all 9 innings allowing 12 runs (9 earned) on 18 hits while walking 6 and striking out 2. At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Jeff Rhoads who was 3 for 4 with a double and RBI.
All that is left for Oconomowoc now is the LOL West playoffs. They will need to win four game in a row, most likely all on the road, to take the LOL West title for the 2nd straight year and advance to the Grand Championship. The begin with a match against the Brookfield Blue Sox on Saturday at 1:00 pm in Brookfield. Brookfield has won 9 out of it's last 10 games which included an 11-10 win over Oconomowoc on July 27.
