Luke Nelson tossed a 3-hit gem Sunday in a 7 inning run-rule win over Merton on Sunday. Oconomowoc got on the board first when Jeff Rhoads hit a double to left in the bottom of the 1st. Derek Nelson moved Rhoads to 3rd on a ground out and he scored 2 pitches later on a wild pitch. Things remained that way until the bottom of the 4th when Oconomowoc added another run after Griff Bell singled and was bunted to 2nd by Mike Bolson. Mike Barker then laced a 2-out single to left scoring him. The Five O's opened things up in the 6th when they sent 12 batters to the plate and scored 7 runs on 6 hits. They added 3 more in the 7th to complete the run rule. Luke Nelson threw the complete game for Oconomowoc giving up no runs on 3 hits while walking 3 and striking out 12. At one point in the game Nelson struck out 6 straight Merton hitters. At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Mike Mitchell who was 3 for 5 with a run scored and 2 RBIs. Jeff Rhoads, Griff Bell and Mike Barker had 2 hits each.
Oconomowoc completed a 3-win 4th of July weekend which puts them at 9-3 in the LOL West, 2.5 games behind the Brookfield Bulldogs. They play a Tri County game on Wednesday and the second round of SWABA on Friday before taking on the Bulldogs Saturday at noon in Brookfield.
