The 2008 season began for Oconomowoc on Sunday with a 10-5 win over Menomonee Falls. The Five Os got on the board early when Mike Eppler hit a 2-out, bases loading infield single to put Oconomowoc up 1-0 in the top of the first and then Mike Mitchell had a 2 RBI double in the second to make it 3-0. Falls cut the score to 3-2 in the bottom of the third of starter Rob Becker after a walk and hit batter came around to score. Falls took the lead with 2 more runs in the bottom of the fifth with a walk and 3 singles off Mike Bolson. The Five Os took the lead right back in the top of the sixth with two singles, a walk and the help of a Falls error putting the score at 5-4. Two more runs in the 8th and 3 in the 9th secured the win for Oconomowoc and started them off at 1-0 in the LOL West.
Leading Oconomowoc at the plate was Mike Mitchell who was 5 for 5 with 5 RBIs, a walk and run scored. Luke Nelson and Jeff Rhoads each had 3 hits. On the mound, Mike Bolson earned the win going 4 solid innings giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 2. Rob Becker threw 4 innings giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4. Luke Nelson threw the final inning striking out all 3 outs.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 1-0 on the year. They open up Night League play on Friday with a game at Hustisford at 7:30 pm. They are then back in LOL action with their home opener against The Brookfield Blue Sox on Sunday at Roosevelt. Game time is 1:00 pm.
