In the annual Southern Wisconsin Amateur Baseball Association single-elimination tournament, Oconomowoc advanced to the second round with an 8-2 win over Forest on Friday night. Because of a time limit, the game was ended after five innings. Forest couldn't touch Oconomowoc pitcher Andy Neary. Neary gave up one unearned run on three hits in four innings while striking out eight. Bob Bolson led off the game with a single. Jeff Rhoads later belted a two-run homer putting the Five O's on the board. Oconomowoc scored three in the second inning on RBI singles by Mike Mitchell and Rhoads. Rhoads, Oconomowoc's hottest hitter, drove in two more in the third with a double. Derek Nelson singled in Rhoads for the 8-0 lead.
In the second inning, Forest's Matt Knug led off with a single. Neary retaliated by striking out the next three batters. Forest's only run off Neary came in the bottom of the third. Zach Sand singled in Ryan Lloyd, who reached on an error earlier. Forest scored a run in the sixth off reliever Steve Rhoads. Lloyd doubled and later scored on an RBI single by Luke Loehr. Jeff Rhoads had five RBIs, three hits and two runs, leading Oconomowoc. Bolson scored three times, and Neary scored twice. Oconomowoc out-hit Forest, 11-5.
Oconomowoc won the SWABA tourney in 1996 and 2003.
The next SWABA game is July 8 at 8:30 p.m. vs. Racine at Hustisford.
