Rhoads Helps Lift Five Os Over Juneau

There aren't many hotter hitters in the area than Oconomowoc's Jeff Rhoads.
Entering the Tri County Nite League semi-pro baseball game at Juneau on Tuesday night, Rhoads was batting .518. The player-manager went 4-for-5 with two homers and 5 RBIs, leading the Five Os past Juneau, 7-4. Rhoads had two-run homers in the fifth and ninth innings. He added an RBI single in the first, scoring Tim Schlosser, and a single in the third. Rhoads also pitched the first four innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits. Rhoads struck out three and walked one.

Juneau had a 2-1 lead before Oconomowoc's four-run fifth inning. After Rhoads two-run shot, Mike Mitchell later hit a two-run homer, scoring Derek Nelson. Juneau pulled it to 5-3 in the seventh on an RBI single. Rhoad's second two-bagger gave Oconomowoc some insurance, leading 7-4. Juneau scored a run in the bottom of the ninth off reliever Derek Nelson. Nelson gave up one unearned run in the final two innings for the save. Nelson struck out three and walked one.

Kirk Ressler got the win, pitching three innings and giving up one earned run. Ressler gave up two hits, walked one and fanned five. Ressler leads the team in wins (7), strikeouts (53) and complete games (4). Mitchell was 3-for-4 with a homer, double, a run and two RBIs. Kevin Raasch was 2-for-3.

Rhoads leads the team with a .534 batting average. He also leads his team in homers (10), RBIs (47), runs (36), doubles (11), hits (47), and stolen bases (3). Nelson, Oconomowoc's other hot hitter, is batting .493 after going 0-for-3 Tuesday.

The Land O' Lakes All-Star team will be announced today. The East vs. West game is at 1 p.m. Monday at Hartland. Rhoads will manage the West team because the Five Os (9-1) are in first place of the West Division on selection day.
