Brookfield continued their strong run at the end of the year and in the
playoffs by taking a 5-4 lead over the Five Os going into the bottom
of the sixth inning. Derek Nelson changed that with a two out single to
right center scoing James Schlosser and Jeff Rhoads for a 6-5 lead that
they would not relinguish. Oconomowoc scored two runs in the bottom of
the first inning off starter Greg Basthemer as Nelson singled home J
Schlosser, who had singled. Jeff Rhoads, who also singled, scored on a
wild pitch. The Five Os also had a run thown out at home plate in the
inning. Brookfield tied the game in the top of the third inning with
two runs off starter Kirk Ressler as Dave Tiefenthaler walked, Shane
Davis doubled and both scored on a single by Scott Booth. Brookfield
took a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning as Kris Franzen singled,
Davis walked and both scored on a triple by S Booth. Booth scored on a
double by Erik Iverson for their final runs. The Five Os closed the
gap to 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning as J Schlosser signled, T
Schlosser walked and after a wild pitch, they scored on a single by J
Rhoads. After Nelson singled and Seam Smith walked to load the bases
with no outs, Basthemer retired the next three batters. Oconomowoc
scored the final five runs of the game in the bottom of the seventh
inning as Mike Mitchell greeted reliever Noah Voss with a home run to
left field. Kevin Raasch and Steve Rhoads singled. J Schlosser reached on a fielder's choice with all runners safe. After Mike
Eppler, running for Raasch, scored on a wild pitch, T Schlosser singled home S Rhoads and J Schlosser. J Rhoads, Nelson and Smith loaded the bases
with singles but reliever Shane Davis got out of the inning with no more runs.
Basthemer took the loss giving up six runs on ten hits, three walks and
three strike outs in six innings. Voss gave up five runs on six hits
and a stirke outs in 1/3 innings. Davis finished with a hit, walk and
strike out in 1 2/3 innings. For Oconomowoc, Ressler gave up five
runs on six hits, five walks and three stirke outs in 5 1/3 innings before
giving way to winning pitcher Andy Neary, who yielded a hit, walk and
had three strike outs in 3 2/3 innings of relief.
Davis, Booth and Iverson had two hits each for Brookfield. Booth had
four RBIs. The first four batters for the Five Os reached base four
times each. J Schlosser was 3 for 6 with four runs scored. T
Schlosser 1 for 3 with a walk and two hit by pitch, two RBIs and two runs
scored. J Rhoads was 4 for 5 with two runs, two RBIs and three stolen
bases. Nelson was 4 for 5 with three RBIs. Raasch had two hits.
Oconomowoc had 16 singles and a home run in their 17 hits.
The Five Os play Lannon on Sunday for one of the four spots in the
2005 LOL Grand Championship stating next weekend.
