Five Os Win Sloppy Game Over Monches

It wasn't pretty but the Five Os improved to 10-1 in the LOL and 16-3 overall on Saturday with a 13-7 win over a stubborn, hot hitting Merton team. Merton outhit host Oconomowoc 17-14 and left the bases loaded in the first, seventh and eighth innings and 15 bases runners in the game. There were nine errors and nine unearned runs. Merton had three hits and no runs in the first inning but took the lead with two runs on three hits in the second inning as Bobbi Bastien had a two out, two run single to right field after JJ Boyke had singled and Jason Morrill doubled. Oconomowoc starter Andy Neary pitched one inning before yielding to Kirk Ressler due to a sore arm. In the meantime Merton starter Ryan Zutier held the Five Os to a double in the first two innings. Oconomowoc took a lead with three unearned runs in the bottom of the third as Jeff Rhoads had a two out, two run slicing double to the left center field fence. Rhoads scored on an error on the play. Merton tied the score at 3-3 in the top of the fourth on an unearned run as Morrill, who tallied four runs, reached on a error and scored on the third of Bastien's five singles. The Five Os added four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Mike Mitchell lead off with a single, Kevin Raasch reached on a error and Mike Eppler singled to load the bases. Mitchell scored on a wild pitch, pinch hitter Pete Schlosser walked, Raasch scored on a sacrifice fly by Tim Schlosser, Eppler scored on a single by J Rhoads and P Schlosser scored on an error by the right fielder on the play. The Five Os added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth on four straight singles by Sean Smith, Mitchell, James Schlosser and Raasch followed by an Eppler RBI fielder's choice for a 10-3 lead. Merton scored a run in the sixth with a leadoff single by Morrill who scored on a sacrifice fly by Zutier and two runs in the seventh inning when Paul Tendick had a leadoff single and scored on a single by Scott Mathias and Morrill scored on a bases loaded walk to Bastien. Merton had closed the gap to 10-6 and had the tying run at the plate with two outs before Ressler got out the inning on a ground out. Five Os James Schlosser reached on a error and scored as P Schlosser reached on an error. Oconomowoc added their final two runs as J Rhoads and Derek Nelson singled and scored on a single by Mitchell. Merton scored their final run in the top of the ninth as Bastien added his fifth single who scored on a ground out by Jay Grevel.

For Oconomowoc, Neary went one inning with three hits and no runs, Ressler gave up six runs, five earned, on 13 hits, three walks, a hit batter and three strike outs in seven innings and Smith allowed one unearned run on one hit in one inning. J Rhoads was 4 for 5 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs, Mitchell was 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBIs and Raasch and Nelson had two hits.

For Merton, Bastien was 5 for 5 with five singles, four RBIs and a run scored. Tendick, Shawn Babcock, Morrill and manager Joe Johnson had two hits each. Zutier went the distance giving up 13 runs, six earned, on 14 hits, three walks and a strike outs in eight innings in the loss.
