Long Ball Helps Os With Two Win Weekend

For the first time since the 1999 season and the era of the wooden bats, the Five Os went back-to-back-to-back with home runs in the fourth inning for a 6-2 lead and went on to a 18-8 win at North Lake. After Tim Schlosser, singled to lead off the fourth inning, Jeff Rhoads hit a home run over the right field fence, followed by Derek Nelson over left center and Sean Smith down the right field line. The Five Os added two more runs in the inning as Mike Mitchell reached on an error, Steve Rhoads walked and Mike Eppler reached on an error. Mitchell scored on a walk to James Schlosser and S Rhoads scored on a sacrifice fly by Adam Schlosser. Nelson hit two home runs and Smith had three home runs in the game. Oconomowoc took a 2-0 lead in the first as T Schlosser singled and J Rhoads walked. T Schlosser scored on as D Nelson reached on a error and J Rhoads scored on a sacrifice fly by Smith. The Lakers cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first as Ryan Gunderson singled, went to third on a double by John Urban and scored on a ground out by Dan Nordling. North Lake tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third as Matt Stankowski walked, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Urban.

Smith made the score 9-2 with a solo home run in the fifth innng. The Five Os broke the game open in the with five runs in the top of the sixth as Josh Fenzl was hit by a ptich, Mike Eppler singled, and both scored on a double by J Rhoads. After Nelson reached on a fielder's choice, both scored on the third home run of the game by Smith for a 14-2 lead. The Lakers avoided the 12 run rule with a run in the bottom of the sixth as Kevin Tolzman walked and later scored on an error. The added two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Adam Jacobsen reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a wild pitch and Tolzman singled home Nordling, who had doubled. North Lake cut the score to 14-8 with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Brian White was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Tom Latske. Latske scored on a single by Jacobsen and Nordling singled home Gunderson, who had reached on a fielder's choice. The Five Os completed the scoring with four runs in the top of the ninth as Bob Bolson and J Schlosser singled, A Schlosser added an RBI single, J Rhoads a sacrifice fly and Nelson added a two run home run.

J Rhoads, Nelson and Smith had three hits and three runs each and five, four and six RBIs, respectively. Mitchell and T Schlosser had two hits each. Urban, Nordling and White had two hits each for North Lake. Kirk Ressler earned his 11th overall win of the season giving up eight runs, seven earned, on 11 hits, five walks, two strike outs and a hit batter in 7 2/3 innings. Smith gave up a hit and walk with a strike out in 1 1/3 innings. Adan Jacobsen took the loss with six runs, nine hits and three walks in three plus innings. Eric Stillman gave up eight runs, six earned, on four hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings. Nordling gave up four runs on five hits, a walk, strike out and hit batter in 3 1/3 innings.

Strong hitting and pitching continued on Sunday for the Five Os in a 16-3 eight inning run rule game at Fan Appreciation Day at Monches. Sean Smith hit a three run, two out home run to right field in the first inning scoring Jeff Rhoads who singled and Derek Nelson who walked. Dan Schlosser singled in the second inning and scored on a bases loaded walk to J Rhoads for a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the second Dan Mastalir singled, went to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch for the Irish. The Five Os added four more runs in the top of the third as Sean Smith singled and scored on a single by D Schlosser. After Bob Bolson singled, both scored on a three run home run by Pete Schlosser. The Five Os added two runs in the top of the fourth as J Rhoads singled and Derek Nelson walked. S Smith had a RBI single and Nelson had an RBI fielder's choice. Monches scored their final two runs in the bottom of the fourth as Mastalir singled, Greg Vanbeck doubled home Mastalir and Ben Kassow singled home Vanbeck to trail 10-3. In the seventh Oconomowoc's P Schlosser walked and scored on a home run by M Mitchell. The Five Os finished the run rule with four runs in the eighth inning on a walk to Smith, RBI single by Gunnar Kroseberg, D Schlosser singled home Fenzl, who ran for Kroseberg and Mitchell had a two run single to score D Schlosser and Steve Rhoads who reached on an error.

Mastalir had two hits for the Irish. J Rhoads was 4 for 5 with two runs, Smith was 3 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs, D Schlosser was 3 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs, P Schlosser was 2 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs and Mitchell was 2 for 5 with four RBIs for the Five Os. The Five Os had nine home runs on the weekend with Smith leading the way with four. They scored 34 runs in the two games.

Rob Becker improved to 5-1 with the complete game win giving up three runs, two earned, eight hits, a walk and four strike outs. Steve Lopez lost for the Irish with 12 runs on 13 hits, six walks, six strike outs and a hit batter in seven innings. Andy Smith gave up four runs, three earned, on four hits and a walk.

The Five Os host Hartland on Saturday at 2 PM in a battle of the first place 13-2 teams. They host Menomonee Falls on Sunday at 1 PM.
