Consistant pitching and solid defense helped push The Watertown Cardinals over the Five Os in Tri County Nite League action on Wednesday. The loss is Oconomowoc's first of the season. Error-free baseball and a solid pitching performance by Derek Ninmann played a large part in Watertown's win. Ninmann threw a complete game and walked only 2 batters for the win. Oconomowoc was another story. The Five Os committed 6 errors in loss. Bright spots for Oconomowoc came from another hot game at the plate by Derek Nelson and a solid performance by starting pitcher Kirk Ressler who went 7 innings, striking out 4 and walking 2. Ressler left the game with a 6-4 lead when the wheels fell off for Oconomowoc. Derek Nelson came in to relieve Ressler in the 8th inning and struggle by walking 6 batters and hitting 2. To make matters worse, Derek got very little defense behind him with 4 of Oconomowoc's 6 errors coming in the frame.
At the plate, Derek led Oconomowoc with a 3 for 5 game with 3 very hard hit doubles. Steve Rhoads added 2 more doubles to the cause. Brian "Prime Time" Salentine, Jeff Rhoads and Josh Fenzl each contributed 2 hits to the losing cause.
The loss puts Oconomowoc 1-1 in the Tri County Nite League and 2-1 overall. They have an open weekend with their next game coming Friday, May 19 with another Tri County game at Hustisford.
