On Saturday Menomonee Falls snapped the Oconomowoc Five Os 16 game winning streak wit a 14-10 win. In a matchup where both sides were short on players, Falls definitely took advantage first. They knocked Five Os starter Rob Becker around getting 10 runs in their first 6 outs. Becker was not given the best defense behind him. In the 3rd inning, Kirk Ressler came in to relieve Becker but Falls had all they needed and eventually coasted to a 14-10 win. The Five Os seemed to gain a little life in the top of the 5th when they sent 10 batters to the plate and scored 4 runs. However, shortstop Jeff Lueck came in for Falls and cooled down Oconomowoc's bats.
The first run for Oconomowoc came in the 3rd inning when Erik Olson led off with a walk. After stealing second base he was eventually brought in with a single by Luke Nelson, his first of 5 hits in the game. The Os added 4 more runs in the 5th, all after two outs. Tim Schlosser and Luke Nelson singled before Jeff Rhoads was walked to load the bases. Derek Nelson then had a 2 run single and the Os got 2 more from three straight walks by Colin Johnson. The Five Os scored one in the 7th and 8th before Luke Nelson hit a 3 run home run in the 9th.
Bright spots for Oconomowoc came in the form of Luke Nelson. He was 5 for 6 with a home run and 4 RBIs. Luke also played solid defense throughout the game. Kirk Ressler also threw 6 solid innings for Oconomowoc. Taking his first loss of the year was Rob Becker. Becker allowed 10 runs, 9 earned, on 14 hits in two innings pitched. Jeff Lueck got the win for the Lakers.
The loss puts Oconomowoc at 19-3 overall and 11-2 in the LOL West. They still hold 1st place by a game over Falls but lose the first tiebreaker should the teams finish with the same record. Oconomowoc's next matchup is on Sunday against Pewaukee. Pewaukee is battling with Lannon and Brookfield for the final playoff spot in the LOL West. Gametime is 1:00 pm in Pewaukee.
