Past Year Writeups:
Oconomowoc Opens Season With Run-Rule Over Lannon

After being rained out on Sunday, The Oconomowoc Five O's opened their season Thursday night in Lannon for a Tri County Night League match up. It appeared that the Five O's had something to prove after Lannon knocked them out of the playoffs last year. Oconomowoc pounded out 9 runs in the first two innings of what would turn out to be a 14-2 run-rule win. This marks the second year in a row the Five O's have run-ruled Lannon in Tri County action. Oconomowoc's pitching turned out to be just as impressive as their hitting. Luke Nelson, Derek Nelson and Mike Bolson combined to limit Lannon to just 3 hits in 7 innings, a feat unheard-of considering Lannon's high powered offense.
At the plate, Derek Nelson led Oconomowoc with a 4 for 5 game, including 3 RBIs and a home run in the 4th inning. Jeff Rhoads was 3 for 4 and outfielder Mike Mitchell added a home run and 4 RBIs. On the mound, Luke Nelson earned the win by going 4 innings, giving up 2 runs and striking out 5. Derek Nelson followed by throwing 2 hitless innings. Not to be outdone, Mike Bolson closed it down with a 1-2-3, two-strikeout inning.
When asked about the win, player/manager Jeff Rhoads liked what he saw in their opening game. "Last year we started the season with a tough loss to Sussex. Opening a season against Lannon is something no one wants. Our pitching was outstanding and we hit the ball very well. Let's hope it carries over into Lakes play." The win puts Oconomowoc at 1-0 this year. They will open play in the Land O' Lakes this Sunday with a game at Monches. Their game which was rained out this past Sunday, does not yet have a makeup date.
