The Five Os troubles continue as they drop their fourth straight to Brookfield on Saturday. Oconomowoc took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd when Mike Mitchell reached on a fielders choice, was moved to second by a walk to Matt Schref and then scored on a two out RBI single by center fielder Bob Bolson. Two innings later in the 4th, Brookfield snatched the lead when they got 4 hits and a walk off starter Rob Becker. The Five Os managed to tie the game in the 6th when Derek Nelson led off the inning with a deep HR to left field. Not to be outdone, Brookfield's Shane Davis put Brookfield up by 2 with a 2 run blast of his own. This turned out to be the runs that sealed the fate of Oconomowoc. They were able to add one in the 8th on a solo home run by Jeff Rhoads, but went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 9th, taking the 4-3 defeat. The loss is Oconomowoc's fourth in a row, the third in a row which was lost by one run.
Taking the loss for Oconomowoc was Rob Becker. Becker went the distance for Oconomowoc and threw a solid game, only making one bad pitch which was the 1-1 pitch to Shane Davis that was hit out. Becker walked 3 batters, struck out 5 and gave up 9 hits. Taking the win for Brookfield was Josh Eidt who went the distance. Oconomowoc's hitting continued to be lackluster with only 6 hits on the day by 6 different batters.
Perhaps the only positive for Oconomowoc was the return of outfielder Mike Eppler. "I had to speed up the rehab on my knee to get ready for the Lannon matchup. The doctors say that after I drop 4 or 5 bombs on Kozlowski, then I should be good to go," said Eppler.
Oconomowoc is now 19-6 overall and 11-4 in the LOL West which drops them to third place. They hope to stop the bleeding with a matchup against Lannon on Sunday. The game is in Oconomowoc at 1:00 pm.
