The Oconomowoc Five Os opened the 2006 Land O Lakes baseball season with a 22-5 run-rule win over Monches on Sunday. Contributing to this high octane output was 5 home runs from Oconomowoc, 2 coming from lead off hitter Mike Bolson, including a grand slam in the 2nd inning. Luke Nelson, Jeff Rhoads and Sean Smith also contributed a home run a piece. Derek Nelson, Mike Bolson and Luke Nelson had 4 hits each.
The Five Os got another solid performance out of their starting pitcher with Rob Becker going 4 innings, giving up no runs or walks and only allowing 2 hits. Mike Bolson pitched the 5th and 6th frame for Oconomowoc striking out every batter he faced (6). Monches' only runs came in the bottom of the 7th when Five Os closer Mike Eppler had some early season control problems. Eppler allowed 4 walks and hit a batter which eventually led to all 5 of Monches' runs. Luke Nelson had to come in and retire the last two outs.
The win puts Oconomowoc 1-0 in the Land O Lakes Western Division and 2-0 overall. Their next matchup is a Tri County Night League game on Wednesday night in Watertown. A possible make up date for the Pewaukee rainout is this Saturday (May 13) with Oconomowoc's next scheduled LOL game on May 21 at home versus Menomonee Falls.
