The Five Os struggled with a finicky North Lake squad on Sunday but were able to sneak past the Lakers with a 4-3 win. Oconomowoc was helped by North Lake's 5 errors. None of the Five Os runs were earned. North Lake jumped on Oconomowoc's starter Rob Becker early getting 3 runs in the bottom of the first courtesy of a 3-run home run by catcher Dan Nordling. Becker then settled down to throw one of his best outings of the year. When all was said and done, Becker shut down North Lake the rest of the game striking out 12, walking 4 and giving up 9 hits. Oconomowoc was able to tie up the game in the top of the 3rd when Gunnar Kroseberg led off the inning with a single down the left field line. Back to back errors by North Lake scored one run when Derek Nelson then hit in a run followed by yet another error which scored the third run. Oconomowoc scored their fourth and final run in the next inning when Mike Mitchell led off the inning with a double to center. With two outs, an error once again pushed another run across for Oconomowoc and the score remained that way for the rest of the game.
In the game, Oconomowoc was out hit by North Lake 9 to 6. Leading the way was Jeff Rhoads who was 2 for 3 with a walk and run scored. Taking the loss for North Lake was Matt Stankowski. The win puts Oconomowoc at 14-4 in the LOL West and 23-7 overall. Their next match up is the SWABA Championship game in Hustisford on Friday night at 8:30 pm. They then play a huge game against Hartland at home on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
