Oconomowoc easily handed North Lake a loss in LOL action on Saturday with a 11-1 win over the Lakers. The "home game" for Oconomowoc was a makeup of the rainout on June 18 and had to be played at North Lake due to field availability in Oconomowoc. Oconomowoc struck first when they pushed across two runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Derek Nelson led off the frame with a double and was moved to third on a single by Sean Smith. First baseman Steve Rhoads then singled in Derek and Mike Mitchell brought in Sean later in the inning with a sacrafice fly to left field. The real damage was done by Oconomowoc in the 5th inning when they sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 9 runs. The inning started with a double by Tim Schlosser and single by Luke Nelson. Jeff Rhoads then stepped to the plate and blasted a 3-run home run to left field. The next three batters walked before Pete Schlosser reached on an error. Mike Mitchell was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Two more walks and a single came in the inning and Oconomowoc went into the top of the 6th with an 11-0 lead. North Lake's lone run came in the top of the 8th when left fielder Ryan Gourdesan reached on an error and eventually scored on a ground out by Steve Lopez.
At the plate Oconomowoc was led by Derek Nelson. Perhaps showing some frustration after being snubbed in the All-Star voting, Derek went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 runs scored, a walk and 2 RBIs. Luke Nelson, Jeff Rhoads and Steve Rhoads all had 2 hits each. On the mound Matt Schref picked up the win going 5 innings, allowing no runs, 6 hits and a walk. Luke Nelson then came in to throw the final 4 frames giving up 1 unearned run, striking out 3 and allowing only 1 hit.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 11-1 in the LOL West and 18-2 overall. The sit in first place in both the LOL West and the Tri County Night League. The LOL All Star game is on Sunday and then the Five Os have a Tri County game on Wednesday at Horicon and a tough weekend with away games at Menomonee Falls on Saturday and at Pewaukee on Sunday. Saturday's gametime is 2:00 pm and Sunday's matchup is at 1:00 pm.
