Led by a solid performance by starting pitcher Rob Becker, the Oconomowoc Five Os rolled past Sussex 8-0 in Land O Lakes action on Sunday. Becker threw a complete game shutout allowing 4 hits, walking 2 and striking out 1. Becker did not allow any Sussex player to reach third base the entire game. Sussex has beaten Oconomowoc in 3 of the last 4 outings and handed them their only two losses in the LOL last year. Taking the loss for Sussex was Luke Plese.
Oconomowoc's scoring started in the 2nd inning when Steve Rhoads led off the frame with a single. Mike Bolson, Clint Smothers and Derek Nelson all followed with hits later in the inning which resulted in Oconomowoc sending 8 batters to the plate and scoring 4 runs. The rest of Oconomowoc's runs came in the 5th inning when Derek Nelson led off the inning with a double off the center field fence. Two walks and two hits followed and Oconomowoc up'ed the score to 8-0, which stood for the rest of the game.
Leading Oconomowoc at the place was Derek Nelson who was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. Mike Bolson was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs. The win puts Oconomowoc at 2-1 in the LOL West and 4-2 overall.
The Five Os next game is on Monday (Memorial Day) at West Bend. Game time is 1:00 pm.
