The Five Os completed a 2-win Memorial Day weekend with a 10-4 win over West Bend. The game was closer than the score indicates. The visiting Five Os got on the board first in the top half of the 1st inning when Jeff Rhoads and Luke Nelson led off the game with singles and were eventually brought around to score on some West Bend errors. West Bend answered with 3 runs of their own in their half of the inning. Mike Bolson got his first pitching start of the year for Oconomowoc and was shakey in the first. Bolson walked two batters, hit two batters and gave up two singles when West Bend batted around. Bolson then gave up one more run in the 2nd inning before shutting down West Bend for the rest of his outing.
Oconomowoc regained the lead in the 5th inning when Jeff Rhoads led off the inning with a home run to right field. Oconomowoc was then able to tack on 3 more runs without getting a hit. The Five Os added another run in the 7th with a towering home run by catcher Sean Smith and 3 more in the 8th with another home run by Jeff Rhoads. Luke Nelson threw the final inning for Oconomowoc and retired West Bend 1-2-3.
Mike Bolson earned the win for Oconomowoc pitching 8 innings, giving up 4 earned runs, walking 6, striking out 8 and allowing 7 hits. Luke Nelson threw 1 inning and struck out 1. Darrell Washburn took the loss for West Bend and got little help from his defense (7 errors). At the plate, The Five Os were led by Jeff Rhoads who was 4 for 5 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs. Steve Rhoads added 2 hits to the cause and Sean Smith had a home run.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 3-1 in the LOL West and 5-2 overall. Their next game is on Thursday taking on Johnson Creek (7:30 pm) in Tri County action. They then have another LOL double-header weekend taking on Pewaukee and Monches, both at home. Game time on Saturday is 2:00 pm and 1:00 pm on Sunday.
