The Five Os easily handled Merton in LOL action on Sunday with a 12-0 run rule. The win is Oconomowoc's 11th straight and improves their overall record to 14-2 and 8-1 in the LOL West. Rob Becker threw a complete game shutout to improve his record to 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA. In the game Becker only allowed 3 hits, struck out 6, walked 4 and hit one batter in the contest.
Scoring started in the first inning for Oconomowoc when Jeff Rhoads had a two out single and later scored on a wild pitch after Derek Nelson and Sean Smith walked. In the second inning, Steve Rhoads added a run with his first home run of the year. The real damage was done in the third inning when Jeff Rhoads led off the frame with a walk and then was followed with back to back singles by Derek Nelson and Sean Smith. Pete Schlosser then blasted a 3-run home run over the center field fence. Additional runs came in the 5th and 7th innings and then four more were added in the 8th securing the run rule. The Five Os had 4 hits in the 8th including a 2-run blast by Luke Nelson. The leading hitter for Oconomowoc was Steve Rhoads who was 3 for 5 including a double, home run and 3 RBIs. Tim Schlosser, Luke Nelson, Jeff Rhoads and Sean Smith all had 2 hits each in the contest.
Oconomowoc's next game is the first round of the SWABA tournament on Thursday night in Horicon. Oconomowoc will square off against Kewaskum who is in first place and undefeated in the Tri County Night League. Game time is 7:30 pm. For the 4th of July holiday weekend Oconomowoc will host West Bend on Sunday and Merton on Tuesday. Both games are at 1:00 pm at Roosevelt Field.
