Johnson Creek Hands Oconomowoc First Loss of Season
The Five Os opened Tri County Night League play on Friday night and we dealt a 8-5 loss courtesy of Johnson Creek. Oconomowoc did as much damage to themselves as the Pioneers by committing 6 errors in the field which led to 4 unearned runs. The Pioneers stuck early and often with a run in the bottom of the 1st and proceeded to score in every inning but the 2nd. Oconomowoc got on the board in the top of the 2nd with a 2-out, 2 RBI double by Gunnar Kroseberg. They added 2 more runs in the top of the 5th when Gunnar led off the inning with a walk and Erik Olson then reached on an error. A double by Tyler Zimmer and single by Tyler Malay brought home Kroseberg and Olson. The Five Os added their final run in the top of the 7th when Tyler Zimmer led off with his second double of the game. He eventually game around to score on a groundout by Josh Fenzl.
Leading Oconomowoc at the plate with second baseman Tyler Zimmer who was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Josh Fenzl was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Mendoza may be gearing up for a lonely summer with Eppler sitting at a comfortable .333. On the mound, Derek Nelson took the loss going 4 innings giving up 3 earned runs, walking 4 and striking out 9. Mike Bolson threw the first 4 innings giving up 1 earned run, walking 1 and striking out 5.
The loss puts Oconomowoc at 0-1 in the Tri County Night League and 1-1 overall. Their next game is in LOL play on Sunday at North Lake. Game time is 1:00 pm.
