The Oconomowoc Five Os took sole possession of first place in the LOL West with a 7-2 win over the Brookfield Bulldogs. The game was much closer than the score would indicate. Going into the bottom of the 8th inning the score was 2-2 before Oconomowoc threw up a lincoln on new pitcher Greg Basthemer. Brookfield got on the board first with a run in the top of the 3rd. Oconomowoc tied the game up in the bottom of the 4th when Tyler Zimmer earned a leadoff walk and eventually came around to score on a fielder's choice by Derek Nelson. Brookfield took a one run lead again in the top of the 7th when Jason Booth singled with one out and came around to score on an infield single by Shane Davis. Oconomowoc answered with a run in the bottom of the 7th when Jeff Rhoads led off the inning with a double to right and scored on a single by Mike Mitchell. After retiring the Bulldogs in the top of the 8th, the Five Os batted around in the bottom of the 8th scoring 5 runs to earn the eventual win.
Leading the way for Oconomowoc was starting pitcher Luke Nelson. In his first start of the year, Luke went the distance giving up 2 earned runs, 10 hits, 2 walks while striking out 12. Taking the loss for Brookfield was Greg Basthemer. Oconomowoc was led at the plate by Mike Mitchell who was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Jeff Rhoads and Mike Bolson each had 2 hits.
The Five Os are now 7-0 in the LOL West and 8-3 overall. They have a busy week with a Tri County game at Juneau on Wednesday (7:30 pm), SWABA tournament game at Slinger on Saturday (2:00 pm) and LOL game at Merton on Sunday (1:00 pm).
