The Five Os beat Butler Saturday afternoon to eliminate the Dunns and put Oconomowoc in the Championship game next Saturday against Cedarburg. Oconomowoc took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Jeff Rhoads came up with two outs and the bases loaded. He delivered a single up the middle scoring Tyler Malay and Tim Schlosser. Butler got a run off starter Luke Nelson in the top of the 4th putting the score at 2-1. Oconomowoc went quitely in their half of the 4th before the bottom fell out in the top of the 5th. The leadoff hitter was struck out by Nelson on a curve ball in the dirt that could not be blocked by catcher Josh Fenzl. The next hitter executed a perfect hit and run to put runners at first and third. A hit batter, two hits and two errors later, Butler sent 10 batters to the plate and scored 5 runs to put the score at 6-2. Oconomowoc did not back down. In the bottom of the 6th Jeff Rhoads led off the inning with a single to left followed by a single up the middle by Derek Nelson. A fielders choice and strike out put runners at first and third with two outs. Steve Rhoads stepped up with a single to score one run and then a huge double by Tyler Malay scored two and narrowed the score to 6-5. Luke Nelson shut down Butler from that point on and in the bottom of the 7th Oconomowoc loaded the bases with no outs. A sac fly by Derek Nelson and wild pitch gave Oconomowoc a 7-6 lead. They added one insurance run in the 8th before Luke sealed the win on the mound, striking out five of the final seven outs.
Leading Oconomowoc was Luke Nelson who earned the complete game win and went 1 for 4 with a sac at the plate. Jeff Rhoads and Tim Schlosser had 3 hits each.
The season will end next Saturday with a new Grand Champion being announced. Because Oconomowoc hosted Cedarburg earlier in the Grand Championship, the final game will be held in Cedarburg. Game time is 1:30 pm. In the event of a rainout, the game will be played the next day, on Sunday, September 16. Directions to Cedarburg:
Take Hwy 16 east to Hwy 83 North. This will take you to Hwy 60 where you will turn right.
Stay on Hwy 60 for roughly 20 miles until you get close to Cedarburg.
Take a right (south) on Hwy 181 (Washington Ave).
Stay on Washington Ave and go until you come to Columbia Rd.
Take a left (east) on Columbia Rd and then take an immediate right onto Portland Rd.
Field will be on your right. Parking will be difficult because you must park on the street and they are having their annual wine festival next weekend.
