The Watertown Cardinals edged out Oconomowoc 8-7 in Tri County play on Friday night. The Five Os outhit Watertown 13 to 4 but 13 walks and 2 hit batters gave the advantage to the Cardinals. Watertown got on the board first with their first two batters of the game getting 2 of their 4 hits for the game. 3 walks later in the inning and a sacrafice fly pushed 2 across for them in the bottom of the 1st. Oconomowoc answered with a run in the top of the 2nd when Mike Eppler drew a two-out walk and then was doubled in by Shawn Tremaine. In the bottom of the 3rd Watertown pushed 2 more across to make the score 4-1. Oconomowoc came back and answered again with 2 runs in the top of the 4th when Derek Nelson and Mike Mitchell both got on and eventually came around to score on RBIs by Steve Rhoads and Shawn Tremaine. The Cardinals padded their lead with a run in the bottom of he 5th to make the score 5-3. Each team traded runs in the 6th before Oconomowoc tied the game in the top of the 8th with hits by Mike Mitchell, Steve Rhoads and Mike Eppler. In the bottom of the 8th Watertown regained their 2 run lead with 2 runs of their own. The Five Os were able to push one across in the 9th but fell short of tieing the game up.
Hot hitters for Oconomowc were Mike Mitchell (3 for 4, 2 runs scored and an RBI), Steve Rhoads (3 for 5, double, 2 runs scored and an RBI) and Shawn Tremaine (2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs). Derek Nelson went the distance on the mound for Oconomowoc taking the loss giving up 5 earned runs, 4 hits and 13 walks while striking out 8.
The loss puts Oconomowoc at 1-2 in the Tri County Night League and 4-2 overall. Their next game is a LOL matchup in West Bend on Sunday. Game time is 1:00 PM.
