The Oconomowoc Five Os kicked off the 2007 season on Sunday with a 14-5 win over Monches at Roosevelt Field. On a beautiful day, some clutch hitting and solid pitching were the keys to success for Oconomowoc. After Monches put up 1 in the top of the 1st, Oconomowoc answered right back with a leadoff walk by Luke Nelson, double by Jeff Rhoads, walk to Steve Rhoads and later single by Josh Fenzl. The Five Os added 4 more runs in the 3rd inning which was capped off by a 3-run home run to left by right fielder Mike Mitchell. Other scoring for Oconomowoc came with a run in the 5th, two in the 7th and four in the 8th. Leading the way for the Five Os at the plate was Jeff Rhoads who was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. Luke Nelson, Steve Rhoads, Derek Nelson and Josh Fenzl all had 2 hits. Luke Nelson and Josh Fenzl each had 3 RBIs. One other item to note is that "Mr. 82 Percent" Bob Bolson is destroying Mendoza on the season with a .333 average. Monches was led by Josh Van Beck who went 2 for 5 with2 runs scored.
The Five Os get a win-by-committee on the mound. Rob Becker started the game and went the first 3 innings giving up 3 hits and striking out 4. Lefthander Matt Schref then came in for the next three innings only giving up 1 hit, striking out 5 and walking none. Mike Bolson threw the 7th inning for Oconomowoc and gave up 1 hit. Luke Nelson closed down the last 2 innings giving up 1 hit, striking out 2 and walking 1. The win went to Matt Schref and the loss went to Cory Milliken.
Oconomowoc's next game will be their Tri County Night League opener on Friday night with a game at Johnson Creek at 7:30. They then continue LOL action with a matchup in North Lake on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
