Oconomowoc coasted to a 9-2 win over Sussex in their first LOL West playoff game on Sunday. Lannon handed West Bend a 4-1 loss which means The Stonemen of Lannon will come to Oconomowoc for the LOL West finals next Saturday. Because Oconomowoc was the #1 seed in the regular season, Lannon will have to beat Oconomowoc twice to advance to the Grand Championship. Which means if The Five Os win on Saturday, they will go to the Grand Championship and no game will be played on Sunday. If Lannon beats Oconomowoc on Saturday, the two teams will square up again on Sunday with the winner of that game advancing to the Grand Championship.
Oconomowoc got on the board early when they manufactured a run in the bottom of the first. Tim Schlosser led off with a single and moved to 2nd on a wild pitch. Luke Nelson then bunted Tim over to 3rd before Jeff Rhoads singled him in. Oconomowoc increased their lead to 3-0 when they got two more runs in the bottom of the 3rd when Luke Nelson led off the inning with a single followed by a walk to Jeff Rhoads. Both came around to score on singles by Derek Nelson and Mike Mitchell. The Five Os batted around in the 5th to get three more runs and added three more in the bottom of the 8th when they sent eight batters to plate.
The Five Os were led by a stellar pitching performance by veteran Rob Becker. Becker went 8 innings and did not allow a hit until the top of the 6th. Becker allowed 5 hits and 1 earned run while walking 2, hitting 1 batter and striking out 2. Mike Bolson came in to pitch the 9th and after struggling with the first couple batters, settled down nicely to strike out 2 of the final 3 outs.
At the plate, Oconomowoc distributed 20 hits with each starter getting one hit and 8 of the 9 starters getting 2 hits. Tim Schlosser, Derek Nelson and Mike Bolson all had 3 hits.
The game against Lannon is at 1:00 pm on Saturday at Roosevelt Field in Oconomowoc. If there is a game on Sunday, it will also be at 1:00 pm on Sunday in Oconomowoc.
