The Five Os remained undefeated in the LOL West with a 12-4 win over Merton on Sunday. One day after being shutout and managing only 2 hits in SWABA against Hustisford, the Five Os broke out with 17 hits including 5 home runs. Prior to the game, the Os only had 3 home runs for the entire year. It all started early when moustache-touting Luke Nelson led off the game with a single to left which was followed by a home run to left center by Jeff Rhoads. Derek Nelson and Mike Mitchell each singled and eventually came around to score on an error and sac fly by Josh Fenzl. Merton was able to push 2 runs across in the bottom of the 1st to put the score to 4-2. In the top of the second Oconomowoc got back to work when Tyler Malay led off with a walk followed later in the inning by home runs from Jeff Rhoads and Mike Mitchell. Luke Nelson and Derek Nelson also homered in the game.
The Five Os were led at the plate by Luke Nelson, Jeff Rhoads, Mike Mitchell and Steve Rhoads, each who had 3 hits. Jeff Rhoads had 2 home runs while Mitchell, Derek and Luke also had a home run.
On the mound, Mike Bolson earned the win going 5 innings, allowing 4 earned runs, 4 hits, striking out 5, walking 4 and hitting one batter. Luke Nelson then threw 4 hitless innings striking out 8 and walking 3.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 8-0 in the LOL West and 9-4 overall. They have a tough LOL double-header weekend coming up with home games against Sussex on Saturday (2:00 pm) and Lannon on Sunday (1:00 pm).
