The Five Os squared off against the Brookfield Blue Sox on July 4th for a key LOL matchup. Taking the hill were 2 great pitchers, Luke Nelson for Oconomowoc and John Arnold for Brookfield. Oconomowoc struck first in the bottom of the 1st when Luke reached on a fielders choice and was brought home on a 2-out single by Derek Nelson. In the 3rd Oconomowoc added to their lead when Jeff Rhoads belted a 2-run home run to center to put the score at 3-0. Brookfield came back and put 2 on the board in the top of the 5th on back-to-back singles by Jim Pease and Paul Archambault. In the bottom of the 6th Oconomowoc pushed the score to 4-2 when Jeff Rhoads led off with a walk and came around to score on back-to-back singled by Derek Nelson and Mike Mitchell. In a tense 8th inning Brookfield got within a run and had the bases loaded when Luke got Jeff Lemmerman to pop up to Josh Fenzl behind the plate. A 1-2-3 9th by Nelson sealed the win for Oconomowoc.
Oconomowoc was led by pitcher Luke Nelson who threw a complete game striking out 9, walking 5 and giving up 8 hits. Luke was also 1 for 3 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Also contributing were All Stars Derek Nelson and Mike Mitchell who were each 2 for 4 with an RBI.
The win puts Oconomowoc at 13-0 in the LOL West. They have off this weekend for the All Star game before getting back to LOL action with a huge game at Menomonee Falls.
